  • 7+ years of progressive, relevant experience
  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting or Business Administration, Economics is required;
  • An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is desirable
  • Profession accounting qualification is mandatory (ICAN ACCA, etc)
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Practical experience working in Finance and/or Commercial Departments in the Electricity Distribution Industry is a plus

JOB DESCRIPTION:


Role Purpose: Responsible for several key aspects of group wide financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, tax management and planning, internal and external audit management, and regional accounting operations. The position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of timely and accurate financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards, efficient management of payables, and administering of corporate payroll

Main Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Support the CFO in the supervision and control of the following functions:

  • General Accounting
  • Group Audit Management
  • Tax Management, Planning & Compliance
  • Supervision and Support of Accounting Operations of Subsidiary companies.
  • Budget and Planning

Management

  • Oversee the accounting operations of the department to achieve the department's set goals and objectives
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • To develop, foster and maintain effective relationships with all relevant external stakeholders and organisations.

Transactions

  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and an orderly accounting filing system
  • Work on ad-hoc projects/analyses as required from time to time

Reporting

  • To lead on the annual statutory year-end requirements, agreeing timetables and responsibilities with all involved, with the primary focus being to achieve a clean audit
  • To ensure that all Board Committees are provided with accurate, timely and relevant information
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly and annual financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Co-developing and managing the budget processes (with CFO and other Finance staff), inclusive of periodic forecasting for the business and ensuring complete, accurate, and timely monthly reporting,
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for major capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Mentoring of subordinate corporate finance personnel, encouraging their professional growth

Compliance

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • To research and lead on technical accounting compliance requirements, developing knowledge throughout the team and with other directorates where appropriate to ensure compliance
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
  • Establish and implement financial reporting systems to comply with government regulations and legislation
  • Collaborate with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations
  • Examine all financial reports and data closely to check for discrepancies
  • Report to the CFO with timely and accurate financial information
