I am a certified Sustainability & ESG Professional, Environmental and Social Impact Manager, Sustainability Reporting & ESG Disclosure Expert and ESG Strategy Advisor with over 12years cross-cultural and cross-sectoral experience in the design, development, and implementation of ESMS, ESMP, ESAP, ESDD, sustainability initiatives & ESG strategies, sustainability & ESG reporting, ESG risk assessment, ESG data collection, E&S impact studies projects, stakeholders’ engagement, E&S assessment reports, overall project management.

I have worked across consulting, FMCG, agricultural, manufacturing, mining, technology, oil & gas sectors in Nigeria & Africa delivering strategic sustainability & ESG solutions to meet organisations’ needs across diverse stakeholder groups (internal/external), Executive Management, Boards, investors, development partners, etc in line with several sustainable development frameworks, local & international regulatory requirements, & global ESG best practices.

So far in my career & across several organizations, I have coordinated & completed over 21 ESG/Sustainability impact studies projects; 35 Sustainability Reports and ESG Disclosures; 5 ESG strategic roadmaps and management plans; 24 ESG related policies, codes & standards; and 35 Environmental & Social projects/studies with regulatory approvals obtained.

I have a M.Sc. in Sustainability and Environmental Management with related professional licenses & certifications from bodies such ISSP, GRI, IAIA, NGX, SPIN, ICRS and ISO 26000, 20400 and 14001 Standards.

As the Head of the ESG function, I managed and oversees the overall implementation of Babban Gona’s Environmental & Social Management System (ESMS), Environmental & Social Management Plan (ESMP), and Environmental & Social Action Plans (ESAP) in line with investors requirements & global best practices. ii.     Achievements: i. Achieved improved overall EcoVadis Sustainability Scorecard Rating of 55/100 (67th percentile) in September 2022 compared to 49/100 (52nd percentile) in 2021. ii. Achieved improved Climate Change score (“D” in 2022 compared to “D-” in 2021) and Water Security score (“C” in 2022 compared to “D” in 2021) due to improved disclosures and operational sustainability practises in the 2022 GSC’s submitted CDP questionnaires. iii. Developed and formulated two (2) strategic roadmap, management plans and campaigns. iv. Two (2) specialised sustainability & ESG studies and projects started and completed. v. Five (5) ESG policies, codes, standards, and management plans developed and formulated. Key Roles, Responsibilities & Experiences: i. Pioneer Sustainability & ESG Manager and a member of the Management Team, responsible for the overall development & implementation of sustainability, social performance & environmental management strategies for FMN’s Sugar Division/Value Chain (Golden Sugar Company) - a 750,000 tons per annum Sugar Refinery (Apapa, Lagos State); 17,000 hectares irrigable farmland/estate with 3,500-hectare sugarcane plantation and 100,000 tons per annum Sugar Mill (Sunti, Niger State). ii. Developed, rolled-out & managed the execution of a robust 3-year sustainability roadmap & strategy for the Sugar Division in line with the company’s sustainability goals, sustainable development programs and targets based on ESG global best practises, regulatory (compliance) and customer (corporate client, internal & external) demands. iii. Supported overall business profitability in Sales and Customer Service through the smooth coordination, execution & completion of all Corporate B2B customers’ (such as Nestlé, AB InBev, Mondalez, Diageo, Heineken, etc.) demands/expectations on sustainability initiatives, data, reports and disclosures. iv. Managed regulatory & customers stakeholders’ expectation while maintaining GSC’s sustainability disclosures and reporting compliance to numerous corporate, ethical, and social responsibility frameworks/platforms and sustainable supply chain/procurement organisations, such as EcoVadis, Sedex, Bonsucro, CDP for overall improved ESG ratings. v.     Achievements: i. 16 Sustainability Reports, ESG Disclosures & CoP delivered. ii. 15 ESG Impact & Performance Measurement studies such as ESG Performance Peer Benchmarking, Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (SIA), Stakeholders’ Materiality Assessment, Community Baseline and Needs Assessment, Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), etc delivered. iii. 10 new and review/update of existing ESG policies, codes, standards, & management plans to bridge identified internal & regulatory ESG gaps. iv. Facilitated the development and management of several user-friendly ESG (sustainability) data collection/management systems and their active usage by key functions for periodic ESG performance reporting. iv. Coordinates & supports the operationalization of Dangote Group 7-Sustainability Pillars strategy across all subsidiaries through sustainability-related trainings, workshops & other capacity development initiatives. v. Responsible for driving the increased Dangote Group-wide collection, tracking, monitoring, analysis and reporting of relevant sustainability (ESG) performance data and metrics for performance evaluation and reporting. vi.
